So this feature clearly seems broken, I only wonder if other users can reproduce this odd behaviour.Īs far as I understand, this feature isn't related to the folder permissions that can be viewed and set in Finder, but is meant to be an additional protection for some special folders that would normally be accessible for every app you run. I even removed an app completely from the list in Settings -> Security -> Privacy -> Files and Folders, but it still has access to the Desktop and also didn't ask again for permission again.Under Settings -> Security -> Privacy -> Files and Folders, the checkboxes of apps that can access these folders (even though I denied it) are unchecked as if the apps weren't allowed to access them.I tested with a handful of apps, some of them where able to access these folders even when I did not grant the permission to do so, some others were unable to access the folders in that case, but didn't ask a second time for this permission. Apps downloaded from other sources seem to have to ask before accessing these locations.Apps downloaded from the App Store don't have to ask before accessing Desktop, Documents or Downloads (at least it seems so to me).I tried some more apps and found out the following: I'm afraid a was mistaken when I thought the problem occurs only with VSCode. So the restrictions seem to be centered around files and folders from the Desktop - which is not Locked or Shared and where I have Read & Write Permissions. Only Duplicate it and save changes on the dupe. But if I move an offending file from the Desktop to the Documents Folder I would have to "Authenticate" the move and even then would not be allowed to alter the file. The file is locked." If I persist and "Try to Save Anyway" the alert states that I don't have Permission to do so.īut after checking Get Info for the document and, if applicable, the folder its in - they are NEVER locked and I ALWAYS have Read & Write Permission to make changes.Īdditional information: If I alter a similar file (txt, Pages, Key) NOT on the Desktop, say one nested in a folder in the Documents folder, there is no issue at all. It only takes a few minutes to set up the whole setting by Setting Sync in the VS code.Files can't be Saved because they are Locked.but they're NOT! Hi - When I alter a TextEdit file (or XLS, Keynote, or Pages) which is either on the Desktop or in a Folder on the Desktop - when I try to Save the document I see an Alert saying "the document _ _ _ could not be saved.Setting Sync includes other extensions as well as their configurations to make your entire coding portable. But after this Extension, it makes easy that at least a few tweaks to its setting to create the process easy.Although, that was quite frustrating to constantly make changes and adjust it by hand. There are many developers who use the text editor regularly to make their Web-Applications. Once your terminal is open, you can open VS Code from it by typing code. One way of opening your terminal is hitting the command button and the spacebar at the same time. The main aim of the Setting Sync extension is to solve the problem. It has an opinionated code format which supports a vast variety of languages.Secondly, the extension is “ opinionated,” meaning it makes several decisions on its own, but you can use the extension with the eslint or tslint tools to make sure it follows your own linting configuration. This is how my folder structure looks like: My tsconfig path property seems broken. Prettier takes the code you write and edits it for you, following a strict set of formatting guidelines.
